PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a premier provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, today announced it will transition to the PlanetPak™ Packaging System as the standard container for color and additive concentrates in North America. The PlanetPak container replaces traditional fiber drums, which will still be available for an additional fee.The PlanetPak Packaging System was introduced in May, 2008, and has seen rapid adoption across a range of plastics processors serving a variety of industries including packaging, transportation and wire & cable. Customers have been drawn to the sustainability, safety and cost saving benefits of the solution. Sustainable – The PlanetPak package is constructed of recycled materials, and itself can be easily recycled.  It contains no metal bands or supports and folds flat to minimize space in storage. Safe – Avoiding common workplace injuries such as back strains and crushed toes associated with handling heavy 250 pound drums, the PlanetPak Packaging System facilitates easy movements by providing the right tools for the job. Savings – Operating costs are reduced as drum breakdown labor is avoided, disposal fees are reduced as dumpsters are no longer filled up with cumbersome drums, and revenue is generated through getting paid for recycling corrugated linerboard.“We understand that companies are under dual pressures to reduce costs while increasing their commitments towards the environment,” said John Van Hulle, vice president and general manager, PolyOne Color and Additives. “We are making it easy for all of our customers to now enjoy the benefits of PlanetPak at no additional cost. We started slowly to make sure customer acceptance was high and to ensure that our plants were ready to support the implementation, and are now ready to make it our standard container.”The complete patent-pending PlanetPak Packaging System includes the PlanetPak corrugated package and a customized wooden pallet which elevates the container for easy access during shipment and warehouse movements. The pallet can be safely moved with a conventional fork lift truck or an optional custom-designed hand cart. The PlanetPak Packaging System is part of a growing list of PolyOne Sustainable Solutions offered by the PolyOne Corporation and backed by the unique No Surprises PledgeSM, which outlines PolyOne’s commitment to helping customers grow their business with safe and environmentally sound solutions. In 2008, PolyOne was awarded the Frost & Sullivan Green Excellence Award in Colorants and Masterbatches in part due to innovative, sustainable offerings such as PlanetPak.
