PCC (Plastics Color Corporation), a leading supplier of color concentrates and additive masterbatches for the plastics industry, today announced the availability of new color and additive concentrates specifically formulated for manufacturers of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) products including pharmaceutical, OTC, nutriceutical and food contact applications. All new products conform to 21CFR.“We've produced colors and additives for this market for some time, but now we are able to offer colors that we have matched to existing uses,” says PCC Director of Development Tim Workman. “We currently offer ambers, blacks and additional colors that are FDA compliant and meet all US Pharmacopeia requirements for light transmission in containers.” Specifically, all masterbatches meet FDA compliancy conditions A-H and USP 26. All colors are strand cut and are useable in all production processes for food contact applications, pharmaceutical and nutriceutical packaging,”“We recognized a lot of opportunity in these market segments and we have the expertise to capitalize on it,” said PCC President Doug Borgsdorf. “The PET market, especially in food and pharma, is squarely in our strategic target zone. Our clean compounding facility in our Asheboro, North Carolina plant, and our recently announced clean lines being built in Sun Valley, California, are perfectly positioned to leverage our expertise in this market segment.”PCC has produced colors for PET for many years but just recently went through the process of having several colors tested to ensure compliance with FDA conditions A-H and US Pharmacopeia 26 standard. The certified colors include ambers, blue, red and black for use in beverage containers, prescription drug bottles and a wide variety of other packaging products. (See the attached chart of standard colors.) PCC is also capable of producing other custom colors for any customer requirement, including PET colors that contain various amounts of post-consumer regrind (PCR) to help customers meet recycling standards. The development and testing of the new PET colors was done at PCC's new Solutions Center in North Carolina. “The Center was designed for this type of work,” said Borgsdorf. “It houses unique combination of personnel and technology to continue our role as an industry innovator.”
