Husky Injection Molding Systems today announced that it is launching its new Ultra SideGate™ hot runner technology at the Fakuma International Trade Fair (Oct. 18 – 22, Friedrichshafen, Germany). The new Ultra SideGate hot runner is designed and optimized for deep draw parts such as pipettes, syringe barrels and other small parts. It allows customers to direct gate parts that would otherwise require gating with a cold runner, making this new technology particularly valuable in the manufacture of parts where quality and gate vestige are critical. Ultra SideGate allows for high cavitation molds with a small footprint, while providing outstanding gate quality and offering mold makers added design flexibility. By direct gating parts with Ultra SideGate, molders can achieve resin savings, faster cycle times and better performance across a wider temperature range. In addition, the technology allows direct access to the individual tips without needing to remove the mold from the injection molding machine. Superior part qualityUltra SideGate offers exceptional gate quality leaving virtually no vestige on finished parts (~0.05mm vestige). By allowing for the use of a single-piece cavity in the design of the mold, the quality issues that often accompany split cavity designs are avoided, such as excess plastic on finished parts that can occur if the cavities are misaligned. This is particularly critical in the medical industry where safety is paramount and sharp edges can be detrimental. Maximum productivity with minimum footprintIn order to minimize footprint while still allowing for maximum number of mold cavities, Ultra SideGate offers tip-to-tip spacing as small as 55 millimeters and a 75 per cent reduction in nozzle housing area. This results in improved cooling, reduced cycle times and more steel support for better mold integrity. Ultra SideGate also allows for one, two or four tip configuration within each housing. “Hot runners are a critical component of the injection molding process and have a direct impact on part quality, cycle time, and resin costs,” said Martin Baumann, Husky’s Business Manager, Hot Runners. “Our new Ultra SideGate hot runner provides the quality, speed and efficiency that our customers demand.” Additional featuresUltra SideGate includes Husky’s patented UltraSeal technology with three-year leak-proof guarantee. As with all Husky hot runners it has the ability to perform consistently with a wide variety of challenging resins. Husky at FakumaHusky’s Ultra SideGate is part of Husky’s medical workcell that is on display at the Husky Booth (#5509 Hall - B5) at Fakuma (Oct. 18 – 22, Friedrichshafen, Germany). Running at the booth, Husky’s H-MED AE™ (all-electric) system for medical molding will include a four drop Ultra SideGate hot runner, Shotscope™ NX process and productivity monitoring software and Altanium® temperature controller. The system will be producing a 0.5 gram medical cap with 1.25 millimeter wall thickness using a polyoxymethylene (POM) resin. H-MED AE is a high precision, energy efficient platform offering a complete solution that is optimized for the molding of high quality medical parts. Shotscope NX is the industry’s most advanced process and production monitoring software that helps manufacturers improve productivity while minimizing scrap and downtime. Husky’s Altanium temperature controller is designed to provide the most accurate temperature control possible, optimizing the melt stream and resulting in better quality parts. New UltraSync-E hot runnerFakuma will also see the launch of Husky’s next generation UltraSync-E™ electrically actuated valve gate technology. UltraSync-E offers repeatable shot-to-shot and part-to-part consistency through precise stem closing and is ideally suited for cleanroom applications and all-electric machines.
